As a tool for operationalizing strategy, evaluating and improving performance, and communicating the two, the Balanced Scorecard has already proven its value at hundreds of organizations. But most scorecard users are overlooking another valuable use of the scorecard's metrics, according to co-authors Marc J. Epstein and Priscilla S. Wisner. In Part Two of this series, the authors argue that the external disclosure of scorecard-like nonfinancial performance measures--or voluntary measures that "tell the corporate story"--can offer substantial payoffs.
