Feeding the Rat is the story of an extraordinary man: climbing legend Mo Anthoine, who found his greatest joy in adventures that tested the limits of human endurance. That passion for "feeding the rat" made him the unsung hero of dozens of horrifying epics in the mountains, including the famous Ogre expedition that almost killed Doug Scott and Sir Chris Bonington. The book is also the story of the extraordinary friendship between Mo Anthoine and A. Alvarez — the distinguished poet, journalist, and critic — whose deeply moving portrait of his longtime climbing partner is a classic of adventure literature.
My life and career were wonderful -- full of interesting experiences. The opportunities that came my way probably assisted me in achieving some of my goals. I never realized that many of my goals could be reached. I had a rich career and met many challenges. My early personal experiences which included a few adversities undoubtedly helped me move forward. I am glad that I had the opportunity to travel around the globe several times to assist many countries. In addition to the time spent in assisting countries to improve food production, I am glad that I was able to offer my time and effort in the educational field. The contacts with several thousand students at universities were joyful and rewarding. The research programs in assisting the agricultural industries were expensive, but, hopefully, all of these efforts will, in a small way, make this a better world to live. BROAD HORIZON-- I FEAR NO BOUNDRIES.

Sentinels. Guardians. Cathedrals. These are just some of the words used to describe the towering grain elevators still dotting Indiana's countryside. Join master photographer John Bower as he celebrates, in stunning black-and-white imagery, the majestic dignity of these vanishing agricultural icons along with small-town feed mills and picturesque grist mills. This latest book from Studio Indiana celebrates these magnificent, and vanishing, structures. At one time, nearly every Indiana town had a local grain elevator, or a feed mill. Towering above the landscape often taller than trees, church steeples, main street stores, and even some courthouses these stark, geometric buildings were the castles of the Hoosier heartland. Today, many of the smaller operations have been abandoned and stand forlornly in our midst.
